SitePoint's 2026 latency study measured first-token latency on the same coding prompts across local hardware and cloud APIs.

Local execution is roughly 10x faster on first token. The catch is the model gap. Local 70B-class models are good for autocomplete and small refactors. They are not good enough for the kind of plan-execute work the SWE-bench leaders do.
My own setup splits the difference. Local for autocomplete, cloud for the agent loop. The latency you care about is autocomplete latency. The model quality you care about is the planner's.

Security: The Sandbox Problem No One Wants to Talk About
Open Interpreter, OpenHands, and OpenClaw all execute code on your machine or your server. The Milvus security review of OpenClaw found a CVE rated 8.8 on CVSS, plus widespread misconfigurations in the wild. None of this is unique to OpenClaw. It is the price of running an LLM with shell access.
Three mitigations that materially reduce risk:
- Container the agent. Even a basic Docker sandbox blocks 90% of the worst-case footguns. OpenHands does this by default. Open Interpreter does not.
- Read-only mode for unknown tasks. Most agents support a flag that disables write operations. Use it the first time you run a new skill.
- Network segmentation. Run the agent in a network namespace that cannot reach internal infrastructure or production credentials.
